WHAT IS A MISSION? Our Mission is Fish-in!

What is a mission? We often think of a mission as a dedicated plan to get something accomplished. Like, “I am on a mission to get my teeth fixed” or ”I am on a mission to clean the house.”   Our plan is to not let anything or anyone get in our way of actually accomplishing our mission.  If we use the saying “I’m on a mission” it is meant to say that what we are about to do is the most important thing on our mind. Well that is pretty funny considering that God’s mission for us was so simple. He told us to go “fish-in as our mission!” He didn’t say work yourself to death or knock down anyone in the way of your mission. He just said to go fish-in! “Come, follow me, “Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” (Mark 1:17)

He is simply telling us that our role as a Christian or follower of Jesus Christ is to help the non-believers to learn and know of him and have a relationship with him. This sounds simple, and I think it is. It might be as simple as talking to the guy at the gym working out next to you, or your hairdresser as she does your hair. These are everyday things that we do in our own lives where opportunities arise when we can easily spread the good news of Jesus Christ.   When we hear the word mission we think of someone going to a foreign country and giving to the poor, water or food. We think that it is an act where we help those in need by meeting their immediate physical needs or giving them much needed resources such as money.

However, the thing to know is that the first order of a Christian Mission is to spread the gospel. Jesus did not say just feed them or clothe them (Matthew 25:34-40), he said make them followers of himself (Matthew 19:16-21).  His exact words in the Great Commission were “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20). I know individuals who take all their available resources and minister to the non-believers. I know businesses that take their resources and minister to others through their business relationships. Being a fisher of men can take on many forms.

However, to be a true Christian mission, it must first involve the teachings of Jesus Christ and providing the new believers with the tools and resources so that they too can become a fisher of men. To start out, Cornerstone Coupons will utilize the Christian Churches and Christian Organizations to funnel the Cash Forward Rewards through for true mission work. By doing it this way, we can be assured that Jesus’s primary mission will be accomplished. If in the church’s or organizations mission operations, they also meet the physical needs to those that they fish for, then great!  We are not the judge. Only God can be the Judge. He knows the hearts and minds of everyone, and he will light our path, and hopefully the path of our users to do his work. Like it says in Matthew 10:30 “And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” Wow, I think it is so amazing that God knows all the hairs on my head, and of all the other people of the world. For us a mission is spreading the good news that Jesus Christ is the only true way to abundant, eternal life (John 10:10; 14:6). And if through your efforts and ours, we can do some other good things along the way to enforce our primary message, then HE will be happy about this too.

We are also allowing charities to be the beneficiary of the Cash Forward Rewards Program because as mentioned before, God knows our hearts, and he loves a giver. Even though we are beginning with the Christian Churches, we welcome other beneficiaries that are Charities to help God’s people.
